Sir Keir Starmer blasted by Gordon Brown for being missing in action amid cost of living crisis

LABOUR leader Sir Keir Starmer was blasted for being missing in action during the cost of living crisis by Gordon Brown.

The opposition leader is sunning himself on a foreign holiday leaving the ex-PM to fume crises “don’t take holidays”.

Tories blasted the leader after attacking Boris Johnson for being away last week.

Labour say their cost of living plan will come early next week, with plans to help pay-as-you-go users coming sooner.

Taking aim at the leader, the Labour big beast Mr Brown wrote yesterday: “Time and tide wait for no one. Neither do crises.

“They don’t take holidays, and don’t politely hang fire – certainly not to suit the convenience of a departing PM and the whims of two potential successors and the Conservative party membership.”

But party insiders insisted the former premier was having a pop at the Tory party and said Sir Keir Starmer was back at work today.

An insider said: “Keir will be out and about today.

“He will be making an appearance at the Edinburgh Fringe, which has been a long standing commitment.

“He has had a few days off with his young family, and although he was away he was not switched off.

“He’s not been missing in action in the slightest.”

Last night Labour said they would end the “injustice” that sees people with energy prepayment metres paying over the odds for their gas and electricity.

They want people who pay for their energy in advance to be charged the same as those who pay by direct debit.

Rachel Reeves, Labour’s Shadow Chancellor, said: “Why should those with the least have to pay more to heat their homes and put the lights on? This is unjustifiable and morally wrong.

“As energy prices spiral, this unfair prepayment premium must end.

“Labour would make sure that no one pays over the odds for the same gas and electricity that everyone else gets, as well as taking broader action to help people manage their bills over the winter.”
