Chelsea ‘preparing £14m Cristiano Ronaldo transfer bid’ as Man Utd accept they will lose star this summer

CHELSEA are reportedly lining up a £14million bid for Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Blues have already agreed personal terms with Raheem Sterling over a £45m move, and new owner Todd Boehly appears keen to continue spending.

Cristiano Ronaldo sensationally asked to leave United last weekend and is yet to report back for pre-season training at Carrington. Old Trafford chiefs are standing firm that the Portuguese star is going nowhere and is not for sale.

But United legend Ronaldo, 37, has asked them to green light any ‘acceptable’ bids.

And that will put Chelsea on red alert as they hunt a striker to fill the gap left by Romelu Lukaku’s departure to Inter Milan.

The bombshell comes after a first week of pre-season training, where new Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag has earned rave reviews.

It was revealed last night that United have accepted they WILL lose Ronaldo this summer.

Chelsea are now looking to pounce with a £14m bid for the unsettled 37-year-old, according to journalist Peter O’Rourke.

As revealed on Monday Blues owner Boehly is a huge fan of Cristiano Ronaldo – but at the time boss Thomas Tuchel still needed convincing to press ahead with a move.

Now though reports suggest Chelsea are lining up an offer.

A bid of £14m is just £6m less than than the £19.7m United paid Juventus to resign the Portuguese superstar last summer.

Ronaldo still has a year left on his Old Trafford deal but is thought to be eager to leave in order to continue playing in the Champions League.

New manager Erik ten Hag had been keen for Ronaldo to stay and help his Old Trafford revolution.

But after talks with the board, the Dutchman has now accepted he will have to plan for the future without him.

Ronaldo had also been linked with a switch to Bayern Munich – but the German champions have now ruled out a move for the forward.

Club director Oliver Kahn told Kicker, he said: “As much as I appreciate Cristiano Ronaldo as one of the greatest players, a move would not fit into our philosophy.”

Ronaldo is currently on indefinite leave after delaying his return to Manchester United training due to family reasons.

He had been due to return to the club’s Carrington HQ on Monday to begin pre-season training.
